Punjab Kings’ poor show with the bat helped Kolkata Knight Riders win their second match of the season after four back-to-back losses. Kolkata Knight Riders moved to the 5th spot on the point table after the win. After a good win against Mumbai Indian in the last match, Punjab Kings lost their way again.

PBKS VS KKR Highlights- Poor Batting by PBKS: Kolkata after winning the toss and putting Punjab Kings to bat first, the openers gave a decent start but they lost their way in the middle and lost six wickets in the middle for just 43 runs. At one time, 100 runs were looking tough for the Kings, Chris Jordan quickfire 30 from 18 balls pushed the target to 123 giving something to fight for. Mayank Agarwal played a good knock but the wickets at the other end and the slow run-rate built the pressure on Karnataka’s batsman. Trying to pull the bowl, got caught at deep mid-wicket scoring a 31 off 34 balls.

PBKS VS KKR Highlights- Good Bowling Performance: KKR bowlers bowled extremely well making it difficult for the Punjab Kings to getaway. Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowler with his 3 wickets scalps in four over conceding 30 runs. Shivam Mavi bowled a magnificent spell just conceding 13 runs in his four-over and picking up one wicket. Suni Narine and Pat Cummin picked two wickets each. Cummin was a bit on the higher side of the economy. Varun Chakravarthy too bowled a good spell taking one wicket and giving away 24 runs.

PBKS VS KKR Highlights- Opening struggle continued for KKR: Kolkata Knight rider top order has struggled in the tournament, the same story continued. Chasing 123, Kolkata lost two early wickets of Nitish Rana and Subhman Gill. Nitish Rana played a loose shot to put the catch in the cover fielder’s hand off a full toss in the first over of the inning. Subhman Gill played a beautiful leg glance off Mohammad Shami to the boundary, the next ball missed a good length ball and was found plumb in front of the stump. In the third over, Sunil Narine trying to up the run rate miscued a shot and caught out in the outfield by a fantastic diving catch from Ravi Bishnoi.

PBKS VS KKR Highlights – Responsible Batting: With three-wicket down for 17 runs, Eoin Morgan came to the crease to join Rahul Tripathi. Both tried to consolidate for the loss and played patiently for a 66 runs partnership before Rahul Tripathi got caught on the long-on trying to step out to Deepak Hooda and go over the top. Rahul Tripathi inning helped Eoin Morgan to spend some time in the middle and gain confidence. Eoin scored a 40-ball 47 with two sixes and four boundaries. Arshadeep dismissed Andre Russell with a direct throw for 10 runs. Dinesh Karthik along with Eoin Morgan took Kolkata Knight Riders over the line and win their second match and four straight losses.

PBKS VS KKR Highlights- PBKS Bowling: The were not enough runs to defend for Punjab Kings bowlers. Still, the bowlers tried their best to take three quick wickets upfront to bring the Kings into the match. But the low score and dew didn’t help the bowler much. Mohammad Shami bowled a good spell picking up one wicket and conceded only 25 runs off his four overs. Although Ravi Bishnoi didn’t pick any wickets he was excellent with the bowl keeping the KKR batsmen silent. He just conceded 19 runs off his four overs.

CONCLUSION

Punjab Kings has been consistent with their batting. The bowling looked good today but the batting was disappointing. This is the third time, the Kings have score below 125. The batting line-up looks good but the application is missing. Kolkata had a great night today but the top order is still a concern mainly the openers.
